With his self-titled debut album hitting stores March 2, Jason Derülo admits that he owes a big thank you to “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi. Derülo isn’t some “Idol” reject who got advice from DioGuardi during audition rounds of the show; his relationship with the hitmaking songwriter actually goes a bit more personal than that.
“Kara DioGuardi is my baby mama,” he joked to MTV News about the singer/songwriter, who moonlights as Warner Bros. Records senior vice president of A&R. “Nah! She took a part in kind of discovering me. [Producer] J.R. Rotem brought me to her, and they put the deal together. She’s been there through this entire process.”
Record execs can be very meddlesome in the creative process, but Derülo said DioGuardi is very nurturing. “She’s never once tried to butt in, ’cause she’s an amazing songwriter,” he said. “She’s never tried to butt in or change me at all. She’s trusting me to take the reins on this whole thing.”
DioGuardi might not be intruding, but it is her job to dole out advice to musicians. Derülo said her advice for him is much different than the advice she gives out on “Idol.”
“Giving advice to me and giving advice to someone who’s really, really new at this [is different],” he said. “I mean, I’ve been doing this my whole life, and I have a songwriting background. The advice she gives me is much different. She’s the same sweetheart behind the scenes as she is on Idol.”
Carrie Underwood is preparing to “Play On” with her third studio album, the follow-up to her multi-platinum hits “Carnival Ride” and “Some Hearts.” The new album, which hits stores November 3rd, sees the country queen teaming with the American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi co-wrote songs like “Undo It” and “Mama’s Song” with the superstar for her new album.

Demi Lovato has been in the studio, recording songs for the Disney Channel movie’s soundtrack. As we told you last week, Kara will be collaborating on ‘Camp Rock 2′ Songs. Demi wrote in her Twitter that she’s currently recording songs with “Camp Rock” soundtrack veteran and Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.
“Recording Camp Rock 2 songs with Kara DioGuardi!! Having serious dejja vu…. Haha” she wrote. Lovato also used the Twitter moment to share with her fans some fun trivia about their past together. “Fun Fact: Kara wrote Camp Rock’s “We Rock” and my song “The Middle”. And we co-wrote “Believe in Me” together. Psshh… I knew her butt PRE-American Idol!!!”
Kara was recently in NYC to receive the National Music Publishers’ Association Icon Award, which recognizes outstanding songwriters for personal achievement, and who personify the vision and goals of the NMPA and its members. A source told Britain’s Daily Star newspaper: “Kylie will be in the US on a mini-tour at the end of the summer and she hopes to record some new music with American friends around those dates. “She already has loads of ideas for album number 11.” The Australian pop singer previously worked with Paula and Kara on her 2000 hit ‘Spinning Around’ – which was originally intended to be the single to re-start Paula’s career.
Ashley Tisdale says she was involved in every aspect of the album’s ‘Guilty Pleasure’ production. Her favorite track, “What If,” was a collaboration with the Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, who Tisdale calls “a talented person who knows what she’s doing.” ‘What If’was the last song I recorded, and I just feel like it’s the most personal. It makes me very vulnerable, I think, for everybody to hear it. I don’t want to talk specifics, but the song is about when you’re in a relationship, and you get into arguments, you’re always willing to try and save the relationship. You’re willing to work things out — but the other person is always willing to walk away. So at the end of the day, without all those games, if I needed you, would you be there for me?”
According to a press release, production on “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam” will start this summer and will get a big premiere next year on the Disney Channel. Kara DioGuardi has been tapped to pen music for the movie, as well as Toby Gad and a slew of other songwriters. The full soundtrack “will feature a mix of pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop songs.” We will keep you updated on that…

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 03/10/09 — Grammy-Award nominated accredited songwriter/producer and “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi makes her music video debut in Theory of A Deadman’s hit tune “Not Meant To Be.” DioGuardi, who co-wrote the song with the band’s frontman Tyler Connolly, skillfully plays the female lead in a tale of a romance on the rocks.
The video, which was directed by Tony Petrossian (Stone Sour, Seether, Taking Back Sunday, Avenged Sevenfold, DMX), filmed last month in Los Angeles as Theory was gearing up to hit the road with Mötley Crüe.
DioGuardi comments, “The best part about my job is that you never know who you are going to meet, and who’s going to inspire you. Although I’d never worked with Tyler, when he started singing the song, I knew we were onto something special. I am thrilled he asked me to be a part of the video.”
Connolly had this to say about working with DioGuardi, “Amazing. I went over to her place, drank some wine and we wrote ‘Not Meant To Be’ in 5 minutes. Our writing styles fit together so perfectly it was almost like it was ‘meant to be.’”
“Not Meant To Be” is the third single from the Vancouver-based trio’s latest release Scars & Souvenirs. The single is currently Top 15 at Hot A/C. Theory has reached new heights with Scars & Souvenirs. The first two singles “Bad Girlfriend” and “So Happy” both reached #1 on the Active Rock charts and Top 10 at Modern Rock. The track “Hate My Life” is fast becoming an anthem for our troubled times; its video debuting at #9 on Fuse’s “No. 1 Countdown Rock.” Scars & Souvenirs is Theory’s best selling album to date, closing in on Gold status.
Theory of A Deadman is currently on the Saints of Los Angeles Tour with Mötley Crüe and Hinder.

The song, titled “Temporary,” will be included on Lachey’s upcoming album, Coming Up For Air.
DioGuardi has written songs that have appeared on more than 100 million records, and been recorded by Grammy award-winning artists including Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Santana, Pink and former American Idol winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
